What size is a 6 yard skip?

A 6 yard skip is also known as a small builders skip. It is the ideal size for medium DIY projects such as a kitchen renovation. It will take approximately 50 to 60 rubbish bags of waste – that’s around a small van-load. Order a 6 yard skip for office clear outs or larger garden clearances. A six-yarder like this will fit on most domestic driveways or gardens. The sides are just over a meter high so some effort is required to load the skip.

Can I put anything in a 6 yard skip?

There are some restrictions when it comes to loading your skip. General household items, building materials and garden waste are all fine to put in a skip but there are some materials that must not go in. The materials you cannot put in a skip are:

  • Paint or paint tins
  • Any hazardous waste
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Electrical appliances
  • Plasterboard
  • Mattresses

How long can I have a skip for?

A skip can stay with you for up to 14 days with no extra fee. If you think you’ll need it for longer than this, please get in touch first and we can talk it through with you.

The skip hire fee includes the delivery and collection. Normally, skips will be delivered during the working week between 7 am and 5 pm.

Where will the skip be placed?

Skips should be delivered onto private land with easy access. Most usually, this would be a driveway or front garden. Not everyone has somewhere to put a skip so it will need to be placed on the public highway but you will require a licence for this. These licences are available from the local council and it is your responsibility to apply for one correctly. The licence cost is not included in the skip hire fee.
